چکیده

Radiation effects in pine forest Influence of IR on forest ecosystems most clearly revealed itself near the Chernobyl NPP (ChNPP), where magnitudes of absorbed doses reached 'lethal' values, as applied to conifers. Main contribution to absorbed dose was due to beta-radiation of short-living radionuclides. To largest extent the radiobiological effects appeared at injured plantations of pines and firs. Nevertheless, during the first year maximum absorbed doses influenced also on leaf-bearing trees (birch, alder, asp) which then rehabilitated themselves completely.

Molecular Epidemiology of Viruses

In the review, our own studies of increased ionizing radiation effects on agricultural animals (nutria, rabbits, pigs, cattle) and small rodents of bio-indicator species after Chernobyl NPP accident are compared with published data of human populations’ survey after the accidents at Chernobyl and Fukushima nuclear power plants. Similarity is noted of main targets for ionizing radiation (the car...

The global demand for cheap nuclear energy grows, and so do the risks of an accidental release of nuclear products into the environment. Therefore, understanding the health and ecological effects of contamination by radionuclides should be of greatest interest for biomedical specialists and the public. Empirical studies unequivocally show that high doses of ionizing radiation (IR) shift the red...

Effect of ionizing radiation on development process of T-cell population lymphocytes in Chernobyl children

Background: The aim of preliminary study was determined development process status of T-cell population lymphocytes in Ukrainian children after 22 years from Chernobyl accident for next feasibility study. Material and Method: 150 participants aged 6 to 16 years are included in three groups: Group I (n=65), 30 to 60 km from center accident at zone 3th, Group II (n=65) 60 to 90 km from s...

Sunlight-Exposed Biofilm Microbial Communities Are Naturally Resistant to Chernobyl Ionizing-Radiation Levels

BACKGROUND The Chernobyl accident represents a long-term experiment on the effects of exposure to ionizing radiation at the ecosystem level. Though studies of these effects on plants and animals are abundant, the study of how Chernobyl radiation levels affect prokaryotic and eukaryotic microbial communities is practically non-existent, except for a few reports on human pathogens or soil microor...

Estimation of 137 Cs and 90 Sr ionizing radiation impact on the plant vegetative and generative organs

Topicality of the ionizing radiation impact on organisms is conditioned by Nuclear Power Plants (NPP), releasing of various technogenic radionuclides into the environment during the operational period in different in different way. Chronic exposure of low doses of ionizing radiation to biota is an invisible, however, inevitable factor of the environment (Lu et al., 2006; Geras’kin et al., 2007;...
